94-year old man registers to write UTME

  A 94-year-old man, Adedapo Idowu, has registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).  Idowu, who registered at the JAMB Professional Test Center in Ibadan, Oyo State, said he did sofulfilfill his long-standing aspiration of studying Political Science at the University of Ibadan.  The 2025 UTME registration started on January 31.  Last week, JAMB revealed that over 700,000 candidates have registered, including 11,000 underage applicants.  Idowu shared that his initial fears about pursuing higher education at his age were dispelled after his seamless registration experience.  His story was featured in the latest bulletin of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.  “I can now attain my dream at an advanced age.  “The registration staff gave me a sense of belonging through the warm reception at the registration venue” he noted.  He also advised other candidates to embrace professionalism and contentment in thei...

  Herbert Wigwe's 90-year-old father takes his 26-year-old granddaughter to court over a property dispute. The legal battle over the estate of the late former Group Managing Director and CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, has moved to the Court of Appeal following the Lagos State High Court’s dismissal of an application for interim reliefs. Herbert Wigwe's 90-year-old father, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, is in court over his grandchildren's guardianship and management of properties belonging to the late Access Bank GMD/ CEO. Pastor Shyngle Wigwe’s application to appoint interim administrators/guardians in Herbert Wigwe’s estate was dismissed by Justice A.O. Adeyemi of the Lagos State High Court Family/Probate Court in Ikeja On February 6, 2025.   FG surprises parents, Scraps JSS & SSS, Introduces 12-Year Compulsory Basic Education The Federal Government has officially scrapped the Junior and Senior Secondary School system, replacing the 6-3-3-4 structure with a 12-year uninterrupted basic education model before tertiary education. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the reform on Thursday at the 2025 extraordinary National Council on Education meeting in Abuja.  He also revealed plans to set 16 years as the minimum entry age for tertiary institutions. According to the minister, the new system aims to reduce dropout rates, eliminate financial barriers, and equip students with vocational and entrepreneurial skills, ensuring Nigeria’s education system aligns with global standards. The government has outlined strategies for implementation, including policy reforms, infrastructure expansion, teacher training, and curriculum enhancement.
